HEAT TREATMENT MACHINE FOR STEEL PIPES AFTER COLD BENDING UBHT

The machine UBHT is used for stress relieving heat treatments as well as for the reduction of hardness in steel pipes after cold bending (Carbon steel, low alloy molybdenum steel, Chromemolybdenum steel, Ferritic stainless steel, Martensitic and Ferritic-Marensitic steel at temperatures included between 600° and 700°C). Solution heat treatments at temperatures over 1000°C (stainless steel, Duplex or Superduplex steel or main nickel alloys) are carried out in order to restore the original ductility and corrosion strength after cold bending. The machine is able to heat the bent pipe section rapidly and uniformly through two vices which block the pipe mechanically and at the same time close it between two terminals of a current generator.

           
     
           
The flow of a high current at a very low voltage heats the pipe, according to its resistivity, by joule effect, reaching temperatures exceeding 1000°C in a few seconds. The temperature is controlled by an optical pyrometer and is recorded by a temperature recorder. Once the required temperature has been reached, the machine holds it for the time set and then startes the cooling cycle which can be accelerated by blowing inert gas, such as nitrogen or argon gas, into the pipe.
